Obituary for Virginia Mae Lockman

Virginia Mae Lockman, age 89, formerly of Moravia, passed away on January 10, 2018 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA. She was born on November 9, 1928 in Bloomfield, IA to O.J. and Dovie (Hopkins) Bailey. She graduated from Bloomfield High School, class of 1948. She received her Bachelors in Science degree from William Penn University. She married Troy C. Lockman on June 18, 1950 at her parents residence. They were blessed with four daughters: Teresa, Pam, Pat, and Sherri. Virginia and Troy owned and operated farms east of Moravia. She was a fifty year member of the Drakesville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed needle point, embroidery, making quilts, family vacations to Minnesota, and going to Branson with her sisters. Survivors include her children, Teresa (Roger) Peterson of Des Moines, Pam (Rick) Johnson of Moravia, Pat Holmertz of Ankeny, Sherri (Bill) Hanna of Winterset; six grandchildren, William Webb of Murfreesboro, TN, Scott (Julie) Johnson of Moravia, P.J. (Emily) Holmertz of Nairobi, Kenya, Victoria (Brian) Martin of West Des Moines, T.J. Hanna of West Des Moines, Kyle Hanna of Winterset; six great grandchildren, Taylor Webb, Logan, Dylan, and Charlie Johnson, Aiden and Sarah Holmertz; and one sister, Barbara Moore of Drakesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.J. and Dovie Bailey, husband, Troy Lockman, granddaughter, Amy Johnson, sister, Christine Bailey, and son-in-law, Rick Holmertz. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor P.J. Holmertz officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Memorials may be directed to the Drakesville United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at Arrangements entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Homes.
