Raymond “Cork” Lahart, age 82, passed away at the Monroe Care Center on October 8, 2020, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. He was born September 19, 1938 to Ed and Mary (Judge) Lahart.

Cork graduated from Georgetown High School, class of 1957 as the class treasurer. He married Paula Pickerell on January 28, 1967 in Unionville, MO. Paula preceded him in death on January 2, 1999. He worked at John Deere, Chamberlains, and farmed for Maurice Sinclair. He was a member of the American Legion Post 136 of Albia, and a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus member.

Cork enjoyed playing softball in his younger years at the Georgetown Labor Day Tournament, and he was on the Shamrock Bowling Team. He enjoyed playing cards, mushroom hunting, watching westerns, and spending time at the KC Hall and the American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Sheila Lahart of Ottumwa, Mike “Tyrone” (Karen) Pickerell of Albia, Cathy (Dave) Thomas of Albia; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, brother, Eddie Joe (Ethel) Lahart of Georgetown; two sisters, Theresa Lahart of Albia, and Mary “Sis” Flattery of Newton; and son-in-law Bill Kerr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Lahart; wife, Paula, daughter-in-infancy, Debra Mary Lahart; daughter Vicki Kerr; son, Tony Lahart, and brother, Walt Lahart.

Cork’s family would like to express a sincere thank you to the Knights of Columbus for always taking such good care of Cork!

A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Georgetown with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Georgetown with military rites conducted by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., and the family will be present from 5-7 p.m., at the Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home Monday evening. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. Masks are recommended to attend the visitation, and required for services. Memorials may be directed to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument. Online condolences may be left for the family at
