Obituary for Nancy Blazina

Nancy  Blazina
Nancy (Mrs. Ed) Blazina age 82 of Ottumwa died at 3:35 a.m. September 15, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with her family present.  She was born at home in Centerville. IA on September 22, 1935 to E. Grant and Bess (Veach) Everman.  She graduated from Centerville High School in 1953.  She was united in marriage to Ed Blazina on August 20, 1955 at St. Mary's Church in Centerville.  To this union 5 children were born.Nancy worked for a time with the CB&Q Railroad in Chicago, IL, was employed in the computer department at John Morrell and worked for Dr. William Maxner.  In 1977 she and Ed opened Mr. Ed's Tavern which she co-managed with him until they sold the business in 1993.  She also worked at Kum & Go on West 2nd. St. in Ottumwa. At the time of her death she was the volunteer coordinator at Veteran's Transportation.She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles daily, was an avid Jeopardy fan and cheered on the Cubs! Nancy also enjoyed to golf when she was able to.  She was a member of St. Pat's Altar & Rosary and also the American Legion Auxiliary.Nancy is survived by her children John (Connie) Albia, IA., Jan McElroy Sealy, TX., Jim (Barb) Blair NE., Jerry (Monica) Drakesville, IA., and Joe (Lisa) Ottumwa IA., 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.  Also her sister Virginia Koestner Centerville IA, her sister-in-law Donna (Bill) Mercer Whiting IN., 1 niece and 4 nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Barton, sister Patricia and grandsons Sean McElroy and Zach Murray.Per her wishes she was cremated and her family will hold a Celebration of Life honoring her and Ed at the KC Hall in Ottumwa on October 21st. from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa.
