Obituary for Michael Scott McGee

Michael Scott McGee, age 61, of Albia, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Des Moines Mercy Hospital, surrounded by loving family.Mike was born on February 28, 1957 to James and Patricia (O’Hara) McGee of Melrose, Iowa, and graduated from Albia High School Class of 1975 – a/k/a “Mags”. He married Julie Seaman on December 31, 1991. As a lifelong hard worker and “out of the box” thinker, Mike was a successful entrepreneur of McGee’s Rentals, McGee’s Downtown Tap, McGee’s Roofing and Construction, and since 2004, McGee’s Sanitation. He loved demolition derbies, motorcycles, and restoring and driving vintage vehicles. Mike is survived by his wife, Julie McGee of Albia and daughter, Austin Zwicki of Des Moines. Also surviving Mike are his mother, Patty McGee of Albia; brother Pat (Bette) McGee of Fort Wayne, IN and sister Jean (Bob) Henderson, of Albia, and uncle, Dr. W. G. O’Hara of Ottumwa. Nieces and nephews include Aaron, Nicole, David, Daniel, Katie, Emma, Hannah, Zach, Kinsley, Presley, Hadley, Nora, and Liam. He is preceded in death by his father, James Edward McGee; brothers, Jim and Tim McGee, sister Carol Genereux, and grandparents, Bill and Clara McGee and W.G. and Verna O’Hara.Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and Mike’s family will be present to greet friends from 4-8 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S officiating. Following the service and luncheon, burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Albia’s First Responders (Police, Fire, Emergency).
