Martha Rae Sapp (Richards) formerly of Ottumwa, passed away on February 11, 2020 at the UnityPoint Health-Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on September 9, 1946 to John and Gertrude (Paulos) Richards.

Martha grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa. Martha married Gerald Sapp June 30, 1962 in Lancaster, MO. She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
When she wasn’t busy raising her family she worked briefly at the Canteen and St. Joseph Hospital and then the Ottumwa Regional Health Center where she semi-retired after 26 years.

Martha is survived by her husband Gerald of Eddyville, her children, Anita (Tony) Barker, Sherry Sapp, of Ottumwa and Harold (Beth) Sapp of Eddyville. 5 grandchildren Dakota Sapp (Ashley Brenneman & Abbie Kepner), Katie (Ryne) Pickrell, Brooke Barker, and Cindy Lou Barker (Caleb Mitchell) all of Ottumwa, and Raechel Sapp of Eddyville, 4 great grandchildren Laynee, Lily, Brennik, and Noah, siblings, Cindy Bailey from Arizona, and Nathan Paulos. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Fred, Tom, and John Richards.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church at 406 N. 5th Street in Eddyville, Iowa 52553, with Pastor Nick Hughes officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at
