Obituary for Jean Marvelle Goetz

Jean Marvelle Goetz, age 77, of Ottumwa, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, under the care of Hospice Serving Davis & Wapello Counties. She was born on July 28, 1940 in Ottumwa to Evert and Verla (Dixon) Eakins. She married Robert Charles Goetz on September 17, 1965 at the Church of Christ in Ottumwa. Robert died on February 16, 2000. Jean was a Nurses Aid. She worked at various places doing what she loved, which was helping people. She was a member of the Christ’s Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing, reading. especially her bible, cooking, going to church, quilting, and going to garage sales.She is survived by her children, Julie Goetz of Ottumwa, James Goetz of Des Moines, John (Sharon) Goetz of Correctionville; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren; siblings, Lorraine (Vernon) Stevens of Lacaster, MO, Sharon (Robert) Parcel of Ottumwa, Jerry (Nancy) Denniston of Kirkville, IA, Bill (Linda) Denniston of Reno, NV, Ronnie Denniston of Texas, Rebecca (Jerry) Eklofe of Ottumwa, Dan (Linda) Denniston of Oskaloosa, Tina (Charles) Padgett of Agency. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evert and Verla Eakins; husband, Robert Goetz; two grandchildren, Jeremy Penrod, Kaylee Penrod; brother, Dick Eakins, and sister of the heart, Mildred McKee. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Christ’s Church in Ottumwa with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and Jean’s family will be present from 5-7 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home, 220 North Court, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501. Memorials may be directed to missions at Christ’s Church or to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa.
