Obituary for Dick Rogers

Richard “Dick” Patterson Rogers, age 86, died on Monday evening, December 4, 2017 at his residence in Albia, under the care of HCI Hospice of Albia. He was born on March 12, 1931 in Albia to Seth (Pat) and Isabelle “Reeves” Rogers.   Dick graduated from Albia High School, class of 1949.  He then entered the National Guard.  He married Darlene Williams on March 24, 1956, and they were blessed with three daughters: Dana, Diana, and Darla.  He worked for Chamberlains in Albia, and retired from Everco in Ottumwa.   He was a member of the American Legion in Albia for many years.  During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, cards, pool, and repairing glass and screen window and door inserts.  He was also an avid coin collector.  He truly enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Albia; children, Dana (Tony) Judge of Melrose, Diana Rogers of Culver City, CA, Darla Christophersen of Albia; three grandchildren, Andy Judge of Urbandale, Jay (Jamie Lynn) Judge of Ankeny, Lindsey (Ed) Meinders of Peoria, IL; three great grandchildren, Luke and Max Judge, Oliver Meinders.  He is also survived by his siblings, Kathryn (Ed) Griffin of Minnesota, Ben Rogers of Illinois, Shirley Leahy of Iowa City, Tisha Sinnott of Albia, Pat D. (Ann) Rogers of Florida; sisters-in-law, Judy Rogers of Ames, Betty Bowling of Ottumwa; brother-in-law, Bill (Louise) Coulter of California.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Isabelle; siblings, Michael, Bill, Freddie and Clara Louise Rogers; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Donna Rogers; brothers-in-law, Steve Sinnott and Bill Leahy, and nephew, Leo Sinnott.  A Time of Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
