Obituary for Carole Jean Chambers

Carole Jean Chambers, age 82, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Carole was born on November 27, 1935 in Albia to Clarence “Buzz” and Audrey (Wentworth) Murray. Carole married John Chambers, and they were blessed with five children, Kathleen, Tom, Theresa, Jim, and Steven. Carole and John later divorced. Carole was a registered nurse for thirty-seven years. She started working in Davenport, Iowa after she graduated from Mercy Nursing School. She was an RN in Sturtevant and Oshkosh, WI, and also Ottumwa. She finished her career at the VAMC, first in Knoxville, and then in Denver, CO. She then came back to Knoxville and retired in 1996. She was dedicated to serving our nations honored veterans suffering from Alzheimer's and PTSD. For many of these men; she was like family in the end. Carole was the Marion County Democratic Central Committee Chair. “I’m honored to have the support of these leaders in Marion Co. who are leading our grass roots campaign” said Senator Barack Obama. She was recently honored by NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees) for her years of dedicated service. Carole loved to read. She also enjoyed playing canasta, cribbage, and euchre in card clubs. She loved to cook; our favorite was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. She also enjoyed singing silly songs to the grandchildren. She loved animals, especially horses and cats, and she enjoyed her time on her grandparents farm as a young child. She spent the last year of her life at the Monroe Care Center in Albia, where she received exceptional care from the staff. They showed her love, kindness, and compassion. She is survived by her children; Kathleen (Mitchell) Chambers, Tom Chambers, Theresa (Dennis) Malone, Steven (Michelle) Chambers; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, David, Kaitlin, Kevin, and Audrey; and also one sister, Maureen (Tom) Roan. She was preceded in death by her son, Jim, and brother, William Murray. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Father Mike Volkmer C.PP.S officiating. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.,with a rosary conducted by St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral Home in Albia. Memorials may be directed to the family and will be directed at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at Carole’s family invites everyone to wear green to the services to show Carole’s Irish pride. Arrangements are entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Homes.
