Sending condolences to Jeff, Scott, Christine and all, and passing along my best wishes to the family. Carl was, by far, the best principal I ever had the opportunity to work with in over 35 years of teaching. Honest, direct, loyal, student-centered, and with a wit that made the gruffness at times go down so much easier. “Old Gunny never eats before the troops” is still my motto when I’m traveling with my bands, something Carl always told me about taking care of my students before my own needs. I loved working with him while I taught in Rockford, and will always be thankful for the guiding hand he provided when I was first getting started as a teacher. That entire staff of people were really quite remarkable, brought together by the leadership and insightfulness of Carl.
