Alice Izora Dicks, age 101, of Albia, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. She was born to Willis Perry and Martha Jane (Warner) Rodabaugh on May 13, 1910 in Monroe County.
She graduated from Albia High School, class of 1929. She married Clifford Richard Davis on January 28, 1933 in Illinois. To this union, three children were born: Richard, Martha, and Donald. Alice and Clifford later divorced. She then married Francis Maxwell Dicks on August 20, 1977 at the First Christian Church in Albia. Francis died on November 12, 1994. Alice was a homemaker, teacher, and nurse's aide. She also worked in the restaurant business, worked with the Leisure Lounge, and was a doll restorer.
Alice was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia. She was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and long time Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, dolls, gardening, and she truly enjoyed working with young people.
Survivors include her children: Richard Willis (Marilyn) Davis of Ottumwa, Martha "Marti" Mae Sharp of Oskaloosa, Donald Lee (Mary) Davis of Hudson, WI, step-son Keith (Barbara) Dicks of Ocean Shores, WA; five grandchildren: Jolene (Robert) McNabb of Ottumwa, Brenda (Gary) Hagedon of Ottumwa, Michael Davis of Council Bluffs, Michele (Shawn) Smothers of Pella, Cullen (Bridgette) Sharp of Tacoma, WA, two step-grandchildren, Vicky (Dan) Cassidy of Kent,WA, and Ricky (Tracy) Dicks of Arlington, WA. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis, son-in-law Willfred Mathew Sharp III, and siblings: Mary Caldwell, Frona Fouts, Beulah Cook, Leota Belzer, Rev. Edwin Rodabaugh, and twins, Virgie and Virgil.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church in Albia with Rev. Lynda Carlson and Rev. Richard Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Cuba Cemetery near Avery. Visitation will held on Friday, opening to the public at 11:00 am and the family will be present from 2-8 pm at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, or to the Monroe County Historical Society. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com.
