Connie Marie Sinnott Obituary (1945 - 2018)

Obituary for Connie Marie Sinnott Connie Marie (Papich) Sinnott, 72, of Georgetown and Albia passed away March 27, 2018, at her home in Albia with loving family at her side. Connie was born on May 5, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa as the sixth of seven children to Elna (Lucas) and David Papich of Lovilia. She went to Lovilia schools and was in the first graduating class of 1963 at Albia Community High School that merged from LHS. While a teen, Connie was active in chorus, band, sports and even coached softball with Lovilia youth.Connie was united in marriage on July 11, 1964 at St. Peter's in Lovilia to Maurice Joseph Sinnott of Georgetown. From this union six wonderful children followed: Tony, Mike, Danny, Stephanie, Angie and Philip. While a busy mother she graduated from Cosmetology School in Ottumwa and opened Hair Care Centre in Melrose in 1976 and then opened her own salon in her new home on Highway 34 in 1979. Connie and Joe hosted exchange students from Spain in the 80's and remained in touch with them over the years, traveling to Spain several times. Javier Martinez and Jorge "Speedy" del Olmo and their siblings who came here lovingly referred to Connie as 'Mom' and she cherished those special relationships.Connie devoted many years to St. Patrick's Church assisting in their many events, teaching catechism, writing grants to obtain the shelter and chairing God's Portion dinner and sale. She was honored to donate the Padre Pio statue, made and shipped from Italy, to St. Patrick's Cemetery. She donated time and energy to Helping Hands and in later years generously supported the Welcome Home Soldier monument. She was a devout follower of Mother Teresa and St. Padre Pio having attended several canonizations in Rome.She enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted many lovely dinners and parties. The Papich family is indebted to Connie for planning and hosting the annual ElnaFest in honor of her mother. Her hobbies included: photography, traveling, painting, stained glass, sewing, gardening, and enjoying her many grandchildren. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; brothers Leonard, Danny and Mick Papich, sister-in-law Lenore (Flattery) Papich, and granddaughter Gabriella Marie Sinnott. She cared lovingly for her brother, Mick, for many years.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, Joe of Georgetown and their six children: William Anthony "Tony" (Nancy) Sinnott of New Glarus, Wisconsin, Michael Sinnott of Georgetown, Danny Sinnott of Georgetown, Stephanie (Bill) Weedman of West Des Moines, Angie Sinnott of Iwakuni, Japan and Philip (Abbi) Sinnott of Albia; her siblings: JoAnne Papich, Mary Jo Papich, Marlene (Bob) Terrell of Peoria, and sister in law Bette (Hannam) Papich; and her grandchildren: Amanda, Marshall, Joseph, Kyle, Katie, Chloe, Sophie, Jorge and Daisy; and many nieces and nephews.In death she rejoins her parents, and her brothers and many loving relatives and friends.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 2, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S and Fr. Mark Yates officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Georgetown. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2018, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., with Connie's family present to greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a Rosary conducted by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary of Albia and St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary of Georgetown at 4:00 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service and family sharing held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia, the Georgetown Cemetery, or the Padre Pio Foundation at 463 Main St. Cromwell, CT 06416.
